Heads Up!

an Astrological Almanac

by Kathy Watts

October 2019

all times PDT

Boo! Here we are in the heart of autumn. The month starts on a Tuesday, the day of the week for Mars, with the Moon in Scorpio. How rambunctious do you want this month to be? Think carefully before answering because there is enough energy to do darn near whatever you want.

Tue Oct 01 the Moon is in Scorpio all day. If that’s not enough heat for you, last night there was a Venus-Pluto square that thankfully is separating. Regardless, keep that energy level high and pour it into your work and not your paranoia.

Wed Oct 02 the Moon starts off in Scorpio. After the Moon-Mars sextile at 2:46 am, the Moon goes void of course until 4:44 am as it enters Sagittarius. It can be a social, scattered day, but you can still be productive. At 11:39 pm Pluto goes stationary direct. Sleep well.

Thu Oct 03 the Moon is in Sagittarius when Mercury changes signs, leaves Libra and enters Scorpio. Heads Up. Mercury is now in the heart of the Via Combusta. Don’t let your head be too hard on your heart. The Moon conjoins Jupiter at 1:40 pm. And it’s Jupiter’s day of the week. Look on the bright side. At 9:22 pm Mars changes signs, leaves Virgo and enters Libra. Do your physical exercise and feel virtuous. Heads Up.

Sat Oct 05 the Moon conjoins Saturn in Capricorn. Heads Up. If you’d rather work than socialize, you don’t need an excuse.

Sun Oct 06 the Moon conjoins Pluto in Capricorn at 2:15 am. Say little, write much, listen and let it go. Heads Up. At 11:17 pm Mercury opposes Uranus. If people have been trying to knock you off balance, blame it on this.

Mon Oct 07 the Moon is in Aquarius al day. At 12:07 pm the Sun squares Saturn. Heads Up. Let the authority figures fight it out between themselves. Keep your focus and your head under the hood.

Tue Oct 08 the Moon is still in Aquarius all day. At 10:06 am Venus changes signs, leaving her home sign Libra and entering Scorpio. Heads Up. Aesthetics and maybe social life want to walk a bit more on the wild side. Perhaps settle for wearing a little more black mesh. With Venus in a sign ruled by Mars and with Mars in a sign ruled by Venus, we now have Venus and Mars in mutual reception. Play nice. At local sunset, Yom Kippur begins.

Wed Oct 09 the Moon enters Pisces at 9:05 am. If you don’t get an early start, you may not get much done. That is not always a bad thing. The Sun is now at 16 Libra, which is the beginning of the Via Combusta. Heads Up for less slack in the world.

Thu Oct 10 the Moon is in Pisces all day. Careful with that touchy-feelie stuff, Eugene. At 6:34 pm the Moon conjoins Neptune. Heads Up. Decompress with a nice drink, a nice companion, and maybe the Moonlight Sonata.

Sun Oct 13 the Moon is in Aries all day. We have the Full Moon at 20 Ari at 2:08 pm. Heads Up. These are pig-headed times, and even without fixed sign involvement, we can be blind to anything outside ourselves. Resolve to make this a lunar month to be open as well as active. The Moon is void of course most of the afternoon and evening, when Mercury sextiles Saturn at 11:56 pm. Go for self-critique rather than self-criticism. At local sunset, Sukkot begins.

Mon Oct 14 the Moon enters Taurus at 9:24 am. The Moon then conjoins Uranus at 7:29 pm. Don’t rely on the outside world. Surprise yourself. It’s Columbus Day, or is it Indigenous People’s Day. Our holidays are in a state of flux. It’s also Thanksgiving Day in Canada.

Tue Oct 15 the Moon is in Taurus all day. At 3:45 pm Mercury trines Neptune. Don’t meditate? Try a little creative fantasizing, just a little, because it’s too easy.

Wed Oct 16 the Moon is in Taurus most of the day. At 7:30 pm the Moon changes signs, leaves Taurus and enters Gemini. Heads Up for a personal binge of mercurial communications, curiosity, and creative playfulness. See what you can do between now and the wee smalls of Saturday.

Sat Oct 19 the Moon leaves Gemini and enters Cancer at 3:43 am. Sweet dreams. At 3:21 pm. Mercury sextiles Pluto. A small action or word can have a big impact. Careful.

Tue Oct 22 the Moon is in Leo all day. The big news is, it’s the last day this year that the Sun spends in Libra. The Sun is now at the heart of the Via Combusta. Tomorrow the world may seem more serious, secretive, perhaps a bit more seductive and dark. Heads Up.

Wed Oct 23 the Moon is void of course in the end of Leo when the Sun changes signs, slips out of Libra and into Scorpio. Heads up for a burst of fixed sign energy. If you need to be stubborn or uncompromising about something, this happens at 10:20 am, so you know. At 12:29 pm the Moon enters Virgo. That could lower the cosmic temperature a bit. Work through it and feel comfortable about it.

Sat Oct 26 the Moon is in Libra all day. Be nice, and be grateful. The Moon conjoins Mars at 12:48 pm. Be as involved and observant as you please but keep that temper under control. Maybe today is the day to write that scene where the main character totally flips out. Heads Up. It’s also the day before the New Moon, which is also the Kali Puja. Heads Up. Be safe, sensible, and strong.

Sun Oct 27 the Moon is void of course in Libra when Mars squares Saturn. Heads Up. It may feel like everything is hard. Well. So what. The Moon enters Scorpio at 1:29 pm. The New Moon arrives at 8:39 pm at 04 Sco. Heads Up. It’s the Kail Puja. For starters, I suggest we love our mother. At 8:58 pm the Moon opposes Uranus. Heads Up and don’t get too rowdy. Yes, yes, I know it’s fun, but…..

Mon Oct 28 the Moon is in Scorpio all day. At 1:15 am the Sun opposes Uranus. You’ll be able to better see what crazy ideas are constructive and which ones are not.

Tue Oct 29 the Moon conjoins Venus in Scorpio at 8:14 am. It could be a spicy day. Write that flirtatious scene today, or sketch that nude. At 10:34 am the Moon conjoins Mercury and goes void of course. Don’t even try to hold that thought. Let it go and get another one. The Moon finally enters Sagittarius at 2:58 pm.

Wed Oct 30 the Moon is in Sagittarius all day. At 3:05 pm Mercury conjoins Venus in Scorpio. Heads Up. You may not have plans to go out tonight but someone may be making plans for you. Until then, keep working. It’s also the day before Mercury goes stationary retrograde. Get ready and do something good with this. Yes, I said good. Know where your keys, phone, and glasses are? That qualifies as a good start. Heads Up.

Thu Oct 31 the Moon conjoins Jupiter in Sagittarius at 7:30 am and goes void of course. This is our second Moon-Jup conjunction on a Thursday, no less. Think good thoughts and enjoy whatever comes your way. Mercury goes stationary retrograde at 8:41 am. Heads Up. Settle down and build up. Mercury is really on your side here. This gives you cosmic permission to say, “thanks maybe later” more often. The Moon enters Capricorn at 7:38 pm. There is nothing wrong with acting responsibly. It’s Halloween, also known as Samhain. It’s the third and final harvest festival of the year. Heads Up.

As I say each year, after Samhain, whatever you have not harvested out of your garden now belongs to the faeries. It’s not yours anymore. However, I don’t think this applies to your words, stories, or other works of art. Keep churning out more. The faeries like this stuff anyway.

With the Sun in Scorpio at the end of the month, life may feel tense and cold. And transits through Scorpio can get intense. Whatever moves through Scorpio now, though, won’t be there for very long. This too shall pass. Well, except for that zinger Mercury-Venus conjunction at the end of the month. It seems like it just keeps coming around. But that’s personal life, isn’t it?

Keep your work personal and let everything else go. We’ve got this. Nothing can stop us or slow us down, not even the Mercury retrograde. We’ve got this. Heads Up!
