Heads Up!

The Writer’s Astrological Almanac

September 2016

(all times are PDT)

Like New Moons? Like Solar Eclipses? Happy September 1! Start the month with a fresh approach, and a fresh feeling. Autumn is not that far off. And remember, Mercury is retrograde.

Thu Sep 01 is the New Moon and Solar Eclipse at 9 Vir. Heads Up. It’s pretty much opposed Neptune, too. Be safe and work on the small important stuff first. In the evening the Sun squares Saturn. Don’t judge what you wrote today. You’ll like it better tomorrow.

Fri Sep 02 the Sun makes an opposition to Neptune at 9:38 am. Let the dreamy fog dissolve and see things more clearly. At 10:18 am Mercury retrograde conjoins Jupiter in Virgo. Trust your first impression, write fast, and edit later. At 3:00 pm the Moon conjoins Mercury, and at 3:13 pm the Moon conjoins Jupiter and goes void of course. Write fast, write a lot and don’t worry about how much of it may make the cut. At long last the Moon enters Libra at 5:55 pm. Now go have a pleasant evening.

Sat Sep 03 the Moon conjoins Venus in Libra. Hold your head up high and smile. You’re writing. You don’t even have to tell anybody about it.

Wed Sep 07 the Moon is in Scorpio when the Sun makes a trine with Pluto. It’s a day for serious work but not for severe self-criticism. Some things are too easy. At 6:20 pm the Moon enters Sagittarius. Go read something wonderful.

Thu Sep 08 the Moon conjoins Saturn in Sagittarius. Why overexpose yourself to people who deflate your enthusiasm? Today is the last day that Jupiter spends in the sign Virgo. Heads Up. Edit as much as you can.

Fri Sep 09 the Moon is in Sagittarius all day. At 4:18 am Jupiter changes signs, leaves Virgo and enters Libra. Look for an abundance of socializing and more beautiful art and music. You may enjoy more corroboration, too. Jupiter will be in Libra until October 2017. Now you know. At 8:11 am the Moon conjoins Mars in Sagittarius. The weekend is near but you can get a lot of work done today.

Sat Sep 10 the Moon is in the final degrees of Sagittarius when Mercury opposes the asteroid Chiron. Think what you like but go slow before acting and causing needless trouble. Have you got your files backed up? Don’t get paranoid about it. Save that for tomorrow.

Sun Sep 11 the Moon conjoins Pluto in Capricorn. You don’t need to feel paranoid about your work now, either. At night, the Moon makes a trine with Mercury. This can set your mind more at ease. Remember, Mercury is retrograde.

Mon Sep 12 the Moon is in the last degrees of Capricorn when Mercury makes a square with Mars. It may be hard to know what to work on first. At 2:28 pm the Moon enters Aquarius. That should cool things down and clear the mind a bit.

Wed Sep 14 the Moon is in Aquarius until 7:23 pm when it enters Pisces. Do a solid day’s work, and then enjoy some dreamy music or poetry.

Thu Sep 15 the Moon conjoins Neptune in Pisces. You may have been reminded of something dreamy that you’d like to work on. Go for it.

Fri Sep 16 we have the Full Moon (and Lunar Eclipse) at 24 Pis at 12:05 pm. Heads Up. Work steadily and don’t let anything distract you. The Moon then goes void of course until entering Aries at 9:22 pm. You might get a burst of energy just before bedtime. Perfect.

Sun Sep 18 the Moon conjoins Uranus in Aries at 11:32 am. Blow off some steam, or put something outrageous in your current project. Characters can say the darndest things. The Moon then opposes Venus at 12:30 pm. Heads Up. (Yes, there was a Venus-Uranus opposition. about twelve hours ago.) Play nice, and don’t fret over what you’re wearing. At 1:11 pm the Moon makes a trine with Mars and goes void of course. However the day has gone, you want to feel like you’re making progress. The Moon finally enters Taurus at 9:58 pm. Have a reasonable bedtime snack and sleep well.

Tue Sep 20 the Moon is in Taurus when Mercury retrograde makes a trine with Pluto. (Pluto is retrograde too, if anybody cares.) If you need a break, get up and take a short walk. At 10:53 pm the Moon leaves Taurus and enters Gemini. Lighten up and write it out! It’s also the last day of Mercury’s retrograde in Virgo. Prepare to really lighten up. Heads Up.

Wed Sep 21 the Moon is in Gemini when Mercury goes stationary direct at 10:31 pm. Mercury is at 14 Vir. Heads Up. We now get to do the second of half of Virgo all over again. Stretch those typing fingers and maybe have a spare ink cartridge for the printer. Is this a mercurial day, or what? This is also the last day that the Sun spends in the cozy capable confines of Virgo. Tomorrow the world may seem more lively and entertaining.

Thu Sep 22 the Moon is in Gemini when the Sun switches signs and enters Libra. The Sun is now a guest in the house of Venus. Today is the autumnal equinox, when the Sun rises due east and sets due west, and is above the horizon for 12 hours all over the world. Do an ingress chart if you’d like a peek at what the next three months may hold.

Fri Sep 23 the Moon leaves Gemini and enters its home sign Cancer at 1:33 am. At 1:51 am Mercury makes a trine to Pluto. This should not even disturb your dreams. At 7:51 pm Venus changes signs and enters Scorpio. Heads Up. Beauty and aesthetics are about to get spicier.

Mon Sep 26 the Moon is in Leo when the Sun conjoins Jupiter in Libra. Heads Up. If you don’t get some good news today, you’ll have found more places to send your great stuff. Don’t sit on it.

Tue Sep 27 the Moon is still in Leo when Mars changes signs and enters Capricorn. Work ethic meets self-motivation. You know you’re going to get a lot done between now and November 9.

Wed Sep 28 the Moon is in Virgo all day. Work with great care and precision. Feel good about every word.

Thu Sep 29 the Moon conjoins Mercury in Virgo. Play it safe out in the world, but go out and play it. It’s also the day before the New Moon. Heads Up.

Fri Sep 30 the very dark Moon conjoins Jupiter at 9:54 am. You’re storing up secret good luck for later. At 5:11 pm is the New Moon at 8 Lib. Heads Up. Networking and a heightened sense of the artistic can serve you well in the coming lunar month.

September may start out rocky and with a bit of a bang, but it settles down. Whoever thought that I would thank Mercury for contributing to a patient, productive month? Mercury retrograde in Virgo can do that, though. Few things feel better than knowing that you got something, something difficult, right. No check would dare bounce under those conditions this month. Work diligently and be rewarded, in more ways than one. Look forward to more of an artistic atmosphere and a party mood in the weeks ahead. Write about it all. Heads Up!
