Heads Up!

The Writer’s Astrological Almanac

By Kathy Watts

August 2019

(all times are PDT)

Ah, the Dog Days! So long as we don’t bite anyone, or they bite us, things should be cool. We’re expected to provide our own entertainment and excitement this month, but with the Sun mostly in Leo, that won’t be hard to do.

Thu Aug 01 the Moon is in Leo all day long. Mercury is direct but not up to speed. Be grateful. At 1:48 pm the Moon conjoins Mars in Leo, then goes void of course. Fire up that virtual grill and think bbq. Heads Up.

Fri Aug 02 the Moon is still in Leo when Venus squares Uranus. This is at 3 am, so perhaps it is more the stuff of dreams. The Moon enters Virgo at 6:20 am. Look forward to a sensible day.

Wed Aug 07 the Moon is in Scorpio when the Sun trines Jupiter retrograde. t’s a great day to work with some serious passion. Heads up.

Thu Aug 08 the Moon is in Scorpio when Venus trines Jupiter retrograde. Heads up. This could go either way, good or bad. You may not get to control it but you can still exert some influence.

Fri Aug 09 the Moon conjoins Jupiter retrograde in Sagittarius. Heads up for some subtle, strong good luck.

Sun Aug 11 the Moon is in Capricorn when Jupiter goes stationary direct. This happens at 6:37 am, at 14Sag. Heads up for an extra strong dose of Jupiter sitting and moving slowly from the middle of its home sign. The world may start to feel a bit bigger. At 12:46 pm Mercury changes signs, leaves Cancer and reenters Leo. Heads Up. Some old neglected sparks may come back to life. At 7:27 pm Uranus goes stationary retrograde at 06 Tau. Learn to like it (if you can even notice it). Uranus will be retrograde for all the rest of this year.

Mon Aug 12 the Moon conjoins Saturn retrograde in Capricorn. No need to stress. Just take things one at a time. At 2:11 pm the Moon conjoins Pluto retrograde and then goes void of course. Hang in there. This too shall pass.

Tue Aug 13 the Moon is in Aquarius when the Sun conjoins Venus at 11:07 pm. It could be a moody if pleasant day, if you don’t demand depth.

Wed Aug 14 the Moon is in Aquarius all day. It could be hard to distract you, and that’s a good thing.

Thu Aug 15 we have the Full Moon at 5:29 am. This is at 22 Aqu. Heads Up. If a little more social consciousness seeps into your work, don’t fight it. With the Sun still in Leo, this is the lunar month to state your views.

Sat Aug 16 the Moon is in Pisces when Mars changes signs, exits fiery Leo and enters more grounded Virgo. Heads up for some unglamorous progress. Say thank you.

Wed Aug 21 the Moon is in Taurus when Venus changes signs, leaves playful Leo and enters less exuberant but just as intent Virgo at 2:06 am. Fifty-five whole minutes later at 3:05 am Mercury trines Jupiter. Heads up for some lovely and unexpected progress. At 10:33 am the Moon conjoins Uranus and goes void of course. Be willing to surprise yourself all day long.

Thu Aug 22 the Moon is in Taurus when the Moon squares Mercury. Of course this happens twice every month (though not always with the Moon in Taurus). So maybe you’ll change your mind a few times about what you want to eat. The big news is, today is the day when the Sun occupies the last degree of its home sign Leo. Tomorrow the world may seem less bright, but also less crazed. Heads Up.

Fri Aug 23 the Moon is in the end of Taurus when the Sun changes signs, leaves Leo and enters Virgo. Heads up for a mild burst of better grounding and centering. This occurs at 3:02 am. At 7:34 am the Moon leaves Taurus and enters Gemini. Heads up. Better grounded or not, start the day with an extra mercurial spring in your step and sparkle in your mental processes. We have from now until the middle of Sunday to make the most of our curiosity, networking, and communicative skills. Go for it.

Sat Aug 24 the Moon is in Gemini when Venus and Mars conjoin in Virgo at 10:05 am. Heads up. When desire and passion come together, especially with the Moon in Gemini, sparkles can happen if not sparks.

Sun Aug 25 the Moon leaves Gemini and enters Cancer 2:05 pm. Heads up. If you tapped into a new interest or approach to a project, it can put down some roots now. Enjoy a good supper and feel good about yourself.

Wed Aug 28 the Moon is in Leo when Mars trines Uranus. If you’ve been flirting with a wonderful if crazy idea, it could ignite now. Heads Up.

Thu Aug 29 the Moon is in Leo when Mercury changes signs, leaves Leo and enters its nocturnal home sign Virgo. Heads up. On my planet, it’s unofficially prime editing season. At 4:57 pm the Moon leaves Leo and enters Virgo, and at 7:22 pm the Moon conjoins Mercury. Heads Up. It could be an energetic evening. It’s also the day before the New Moon. Extra Heads Up to keep safe all those things that matter the most.

Fri Aug 30 the Moon is in Virgo all day. At 3:37 am we have the New Moon at 06 Vir. Get serious (but not obsessed with) the little things that life work for you. At 5:15 am the Moon conjoins Mars. Want to get up early for a change? At 11:13 am the Moon conjoins Venus. Heads up for smoldering if not overheated day.

Times can get rocky when the Sun changes signs. Cusps can be more than a challenge. Look at Aries-Taurus, for example. In August, we have Leo-Virgo, and we can really work with that. Imagine the passion and creativity of Leo blurred with the work ethic and attention to detail of Virgo. Coco Chanel was born on the Leo-Virgo cusp. For one.

Mercury has emerged from a retrograde period, and Jupiter has also gone stationary direct. Nice. Now don’t fritter it away. Mercury, Venus, and Mars do their share to keep your attention close to home and to personal concerns. And, after all, isn’t that what we are really trying to make sense of and to express?

Fire away and do all you can, all month long. Don’t look back. Heads Up!
