Heads Up!

The Writer’s Astrological Almanac

by Kathy Watts

March 2018

all times before 2 AM March 11 are PST. After that, it’s PDT.

However this March is coming in, it’s going out like a lion. Keep your head down, keep working, and don’t let the world punch your buttons, especially in the first week. Then you’ll go out like a lion, too. That’s my plan.

Thu Mar 01 the Moon is in Virgo when Venus trines Jupiter. That’s a happiness-is aspect, so wake up in a good mood and do good work. Plus, Thursday is Jupiter’s day of the week. Think and act big. At 4:51 pm we have the Full Moon at 11 Vir. Heads Up. How practical can you be? Now do it big.

Fri Mar 02 the Moon is in Virgo when Mercury trines Jupiter. You may not finish one big project, but you could make a lot of progress on several smaller ones.

Sun Mar 04 the Moon is in Libra when the Sun conjoins Neptune in Pisces at 5:54 am. Heads Up. Wake up wistful and try to settle down. Four and a half hours later at 10:05 am, Mercury conjoins Venus in Pisces. Heads Up. Is this a call to brunch or what? At 1:25 pm Mercury conjoins Chiron in Pisces. You may not have written or said anything hurtful but it’s easy for others to take things the wrong way. Heads Up. At 2:5 pm Venus conjoins Chiron in Pisces. It’s a touchy feelie Heads Up sorta day.

Mon Mar 05 the Moon is in Scorpio when Mercury changes signs, leaves Pisces and enters Aries. Heads Up. Being serious and energetic at the same time is not a bad thing.

Tue Mar 06 the Moon is in Scorpio when Venus changes signs, leaves Pisces and enters Aries. Whatever you were thinking about yesterday will be even more appealing today. Why not start a first draft?

Wed Mar 07 the Moon conjoins Jupiter in Scorpio and then goes void of course. Heads Up. Nothing is too big to tackle. No to-do list is too long. At 2:03 pm the Moon enters Sagittarius. What was a grind earlier may be a lot more fun now.

Thu Mar 08 the Moon is in Sagittarius all day. At 8:45 pm Jupiter goes stationary retrograde. Heads Up. Do more planning and organizing. It may look like you’re simply doing less, but you’re not.

Fri Mar 09 the Moon conjoins Mars in Sagittarius. This could be the start of a very social weekend. Get your word count done early and don’t look back.

Sat Mar 10 the Moon conjoins Saturn in Capricorn at 6:05 pm. It’s okay to be the only grown-up in the room. Consider how one of your protagonists would handle this. At 11:00 pm Mercury makes a square to Saturn. Heads Up. You could take a comment to be criticism but you don’t have to hang on to it.

Sun Mar 11 the Moon is in Capricorn when Daylight Savings Time begins. Be prepared for your sundial to be an hour late from now until November 4. At 9:15 pm the Moon conjoins Pluto in Capricorn. Heads Up. Sleep well and save that intensity for tomorrow (unless you mean to stay up all night).

Wed Mar 14 the Moon is in Aquarius all day. Distance yourself from everyone and everything and got a lot done.

Fri Mar 16 the Moon conjoins Neptune in Pisces. Don’t do anything too demanding, unless it’s writing romantic poetry. It’s also the day before the New Moon. Be safe and take all practical precautions. Heads Up.

Sat Mar 17 we have the New Moon at 26 Pisces. The Moon then goes void of course. Heads Up. Emotions are powerful forces and you can connect with others through them in your work. At 9:40 am Mars changes signs, leaving Sagittarius and entering Capricorn. Heads Up. If you weren’t ambitious before, that can change fast.

Mon Mar 19 the Moon is in Taurus when Mercury and Venus conjoin in Aries. Heads Up. If March 4 was fun, this should be hilarious. Or, maybe it’s time for a business lunch. It’s also the last day that the Sun spends in passionate compassionate Pisces. Tomorrow the world may seem faster, brighter, and louder. Heads Up.

Tue Mar 20 the Moon is in Taurus when the Sun moves out of Pisces and enters Aries at 9:15 am. Heads Up. It’s the vernal equinox, when day and night are equal, all over the world. If you want a peek at the next three months, look at an ingress chart. In the northern hemisphere, spring has officially sprung.

Wed Mar 21 the Moon is in Taurus for most of the day. At 10:30 pm the Moon changes signs and moves into Gemini. Heads Up for a mercurial, creative, fun time from now through Friday. Today is also the day before the next Mercury retrograde cycle. Do you know where your phone and car keys are? Heads Up.

Thu Mar 22 the Moon is in Gemini when Mercury goes stationary retrograde at 5:19 pm. Heads Up. We now have Mercury and Jupiter retrograde. All the other planets are direct. This is the time to edit something big.

Sat Mar 24 the Moon moves out of Gemini and into Cancer at 1:53 am. Night owl writers and creative types may want a bedtime snack to celebrate how much work got done. At 9:08 am the Sun squares Mars. With such a fiery aspect, be happy for the Moon in Cancer. You can accomplish a lot, or you could get impatient and destroy a bunch of work on a whim. You decide.

Wed Mar 28 the Moon is in Leo when Venus conjoins Uranus in Aries. Heads Up. Be open to surprising yourself in a big way. Take a risk. It might produce something beautiful. You don’t have to show anyone right away. This month we’ve had Wednesdays with the Moon mostly in fixed signs. It should have not been hard to decide what needed to be done when. Feel good about it.

Thu Mar 29 the Moon is in sensible Virgo when the Sun squares Saturn. Heads Up. Question authority, or at least have your doubts or reservations.

Fri Mar 30 the Moon is in Libra when Venus changes signs, leaves Aries and goes to her diurnal home Taurus. Heads Up. This should make dealing with people a lot more pleasant. Tell your characters. They’ll want to know.

Sat Mar 31 we have the Full Moon at 10 Libra. Heads Up. It’s the first night of Passover. At the end of the day, we’re all in this together.

It only seems like a crazy month. We get two Mercury-Venus conjunctions, one in Pisces and the other in Aries. We get a Jupiter retrograde and then a Mercury retrograde. Just when everything in the world seems poised to dash forward, our thoughts and intentions may get downshifted.

That won’t stop progress. That won’t stop improvements, learning, or networking and reaching out to whomever or whatever can get our work out into the world. This is Aries talking, and Aries is not one to listen to very much discouraging criticism. This is a power-packed month that gets ramped up with each week, and ends with the reward and comfort of Taurus. Don’t let down now, not for a single day. Heads Up!
