Heads Up!

The Writer’s Astrological Almanac

by Kathy Watts

September 2018

all times are PDT.

Retrogrades are still on the menu this month, but more like appetizers. Four planets are retrograde when the month starts, with Saturn going direct after the first week. After that we are down to three, but they are all in Earth signs, two in Capricorn and one in Taurus. By the end of the month, we are down to only two planets retrograde. So, it may still like we’re slogging through the days but we can make some real progress, however slowly. Hang in there.

Sat Sept 01 the Moon is in Taurus all day. Use this to make a solid, well-grounded start to the month and work from there.

Sun Sept 02 the Moon enters Gemini at 1:02 am. Heads Up. We have from now until Tuesday morning to be the most curious, connected, and productive as we can be. Go for it!

Mon Sept 03 the Moon is in Gemini when Mercury sextiles Venus. You can inject an extra dose of charm into what you do and say today. Write a bunch and get favorable reactions.

Tue Sept 04 the Moon enters Cancer at 5:03 am. Calm down, maybe slow down, and do what satisfies you most.

Wed Sept 05 the Moon is in Cancer when Mercury changes signs, leaves Leo and enters its nocturnal home Virgo. Prime editing time begins. Consider, the Sun is also in Virgo. Details are big.

Thu Sept 06 the Moon is still in Cancer when Saturn turns stationary direct. Heads Up. Since the middle of April there has been a bit more slack in the universe. Time to get serious and rigorous again. At 6:54 am the Moon enters Leo. This can brighten up the mood during the day.

Fri Sept 07 the Moon is in Leo all day. At 11:27 am the Sun opposes Neptune. Take another look at a project that does not totally do what you want. You might see an avenue for improvement.

Sat Sept 08 the Moon is in Virgo when Venus squares Mars at 1:38 pm. What you want to do most may not be what you have the most energy to tackle. At 3:54 pm the Moon conjoins Mercury. Make an extra effort to be smart. Listening more can help. It’s also the day before the New Moon. Heads Up in the most fundamental of ways.

Sun Sept 09 Venus changes signs, leaves Leo and enters Virgo at 2:25 am. Aesthetics don’t have to become less glorious but your approach may be more systematic. At 11:01 am we have the New Moon at 17 Vir. Maybe start editing a large project before it gets any larger.

Mon Sept 10 the Moon is in Libra when Mars changes signs, leaving Capricorn and entering Aquarius. Heads Up. Work ethic stays high but it may be directed at a bigger audience. Today is Rosh Hashanah.

Tue Sept 11 the Moon is in Libra when the Sun trines Pluto at 8:31 am. Be open to a an unexpected event that forces you to make a change for the better.

Wed Sept 12 the Moon conjoins Venus in Scorpio at 3:31 pm. Romance writers, it’s a no fooling around kind of day. Write it, but don’t show it right away. See how you feel about it a few days from now.

Thu Sept 13 the Moon is in Scorpio all day. At 6:31 pm Mercury opposes Neptune. If a dream is worth keeping, you can discover a clever way to do that. The Moon conjoins Jupiter at 9:33 pm. It’s Jupiter’s day of the week, too. Think big and write bigger. You can always scale it back later.

Sat Sept 15 the Moon is in Sagittarius all day. At 7:54 pm Mercury trines Pluto. You may have a major insight that is apparently overlooked but will be put to use instantly anyway.

Mon Sept 17 the Moon conjoins Saturn in Capricorn at 9:25 am. Let people bring up serious things with you. This can improve a special project, or trigger the start of a new one.

Tue Sept 18 the Moon is in Capricorn all day. At 4:01 pm Mars squares Uranus. Heads Up. It’s a good day to write that battlefield scene, especially if there is no clear winner.

Wed Sept 19 the Moon conjoins Mars in Aquarius at 9:23 pm. It’s Yom Kippur. Do a favor for a writer friend and get back much more than you give. It won’t take long.

Thu Sept 20 the Moon is in Aquarius all day. At 6:52 pm the Sun conjoins Mercury in Virgo. Reread something important and don’t analyze. Let yourself be pleasantly surprised.

Fri Sept 21 the Moon is in Aquarius when Mercury changes signs, leaving Virgo and entering Libra at 8:39 pm. Heads Up. Thoughts may become more sociable and harmonious. We can start to more easily talk and listen with people who see the world differently. It’s also the last day that the Sun spends in Virgo. Tomorrow the world may seem a bit brighter, light-hearted, and entertaining. Heads Up.

Sat Sept 22 the Moon is in Pisces when the Sun leaves Virgo and enters Libra at 6:54 pm. Heads Up. Diplomacy and compromise become more acceptable and pleasant. It’s the Autumnal Equinox in the northern hemisphere, the Spring Equinox in the southern hemisphere. All over the world, there are twelve hours of daylight and twelve hours of night. The Sun rises due East and sets due West. Cast an ingress chart for your location for a peek at the next three months. Especially with the Moon in Pisces, we can always use a little more balance and harmony in our lives, right?

Sun Sept 23 the Moon is in Pisces all day. At 9:46 am, Mercury squares Saturn. Don’t struggle or be in a rush to do something whose time perhaps has not yet come. At 6:30 pm Mercury trines Mars. You may be more active and happy about things this evening.

Mon Sept 24 we have the Full Moon at 02 Ari at 7:52 pm. Self-motivation can be strong for the next lunar month. Have respect for constructive criticism but let your own opinion be your guide.

Tue Sept 25 the Moon is in Aries all day. At 4:50 pm the Sun squares Saturn. Authority may get less respect today. Don’t expect being right to be enough to get you where you want to go. Write that high level argument scene today.

Wed Sept 26 the Moon is in Aries all day. It’s your day to do what you want and in the way you want to do it. Edit later. Perhaps make that impassioned pitch some other time, unless you’re sure of a sympathetic reception.

Thu Sept 27 the Moon conjoins Uranus in Taurus at 3:11 am. With Uranus retrograde, you could get away with a subtle, under the radar experiment or innovation. Free verse poets, go for it. Later, the Sun trines Mars at 4:34 pm. End the day on a high note with high energy.

Sat Sept 29 the Moon enters Gemini at 6:26 am. Heads Up for a mercurial end to the month. Finish strong and keep going!

Sun Sept 30 the Moon is in Gemini all day. Today is also when Pluto goes stationary direct. Pluto has spent five and a half months retrograde this year, and its going direct may not be the biggest deal, but it’s still nice to see one more planet in the sky not moving backwards.

The month may start off slow but it speeds up fast. By the end of the month, there is a lot of fire and drive to get a lot done. Very little of it may be in an unfinished form but that doesn’t matter. If you can overwrite, you can cut later. Get down as much as you can and clean it up later.

Don’t get insular now, though. It’s no time to turn into an artistic hermit. Get out there and maintain a balance between private work time and social time. It all informs your work. Live life, and process it as you go. Heads Up!
